The selection of John Cowan’s redfish design for the 1986 "1st" Texas Saltwater Stamp Print was a natural. The redfish (red drum) had become the symbol of Texas coastal fishing and the rallying symbol of conservationists throughout the Gulf Coast. The "1st" Texas Saltwater Print attracted the interest of collectors nationwide and set the stage for the success and collectibility of the Texas Saltwater Stamp Print Series.

The entire series is jam-packed with action prints and sprinkled with Texas artists such as John Cowan, Herb Booth, Al Barnes, John Dearman, David Drinkard - all who have fished the Texas scene - know the excitement and flow of adrenalin from a bent rod, and fast action of schooling reds and trout. Nationally known artists Al Agnew, Mike Stidham, Mark Susinno, Don Ray, and Diane Rome Peebles add the finishing touch to a spectacular array of saltwater prints that make up the Texas Saltwater Series and kindle memories for many Texas fishermen.
